Good Riddance (to Green Day)
Happy Green Day! Our National Ave writers celebrate the 10th anniversary of Green Day’s American Idiot by looking back on what the album meant in 2004.
[To the tune of “Good Riddance (Time of your Life),” by Green Day]
Another day begins, Green Day’s stuck in your head
They grab you by the dick, and lead you where you’re led
Let’s make the best of this mess and don’t ask why!
They’re not a good band but accepted over time
Their music’s unforgivable and causes so much strife
But they’re having the time of their lives
Delete the photographs and still frames from your mind
Forget that they exist and just have a good time
Tattooed-on guyliner and bad rhymes on trial
I’d rather get eaten by a crocodile
They’re totally deplorable, but in the end who’s right?
They’re making so much money with their lives
Their music really sickens me and makes me want to fight
I can’t believe that these guys have wives
Yet once you listen long enough, you’ll think that they’re all right
Can anybody save us from this plight?
